Employee Spotlight: Meet JD White, Construction Superintendent at Taylor Homes

Behind every custom home we build is a team of dedicated people who pour their hearts into getting every detail right. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to one of them: JD White, one of our Construction Superintendents. From his winding journey across the country to his full farmhouse of kids and animals, JD’s story is one of grit, heart, and a genuine love for building. Let’s get to know him!

A Journey That Spanned the Country

Ask JD where he’s from, and you’ll get quite the road map. “I have moved a lot over the years,” he says. He started in California, headed to Georgia for his high school years, then spent a couple of years in Arizona. From there, he went to school in Oklahoma for two years before circling back to California.

That same drive shaped his career. JD has spent more than 14 years in construction, and he built his path from the ground up—literally. He got his start in low-voltage wiring and quickly rose to foreman, running his own crew. In 2021, a big opportunity came his way: assistant construction superintendent for another builder.

Then life threw him a curveball. In 2023, just as his boss was setting him up for a promotion to superintendent, corporate layoffs left him unemployed. But if there’s one thing you’ll learn about JD, it’s that he doesn’t sit still. In his search to support his family, he found an opportunity in Kentucky as an on-site owner representative and construction inspector for a parking garage in Frankfort. He packed up and moved.

As that project wound down, JD started looking for construction superintendent roles once more—and in August 2024, he found his place with us at Taylor Homes. We’re so glad he did.

What He Loves Most About the Job

So what keeps JD excited to show up every day? For him, it’s the transformation. “I have always loved watching construction projects,” he shares. “Seeing something go from empty field to usable building. Being a part of guiding that process is the best part of the job.”

That passion is exactly what you want in the person overseeing your future home. When someone truly loves watching a house take shape, you can feel it in the care and attention they bring to every stage.

A Day in JD’s World

Ever wonder what a Construction Superintendent actually does? JD keeps the whole process moving forward. His day-to-day revolves around coordinating trades, organizing material deliveries, and staying in close communication with homeowners.

That last part matters a lot to us. Clear, friendly communication is a cornerstone of the Taylor Homes experience, and JD is right there on the front lines—keeping families informed and confident every step of the way.

Getting to Know JD Beyond the Job Site

When the workday ends, how does JD unwind? “My favorite hobby is gaming,” he says. “I don’t get a lot of free time to do this, but I enjoy spending time with friends and family playing games.” Given everything he has going on at home, we’re impressed he finds any free time at all!

Speaking of home—JD’s is a lively one. He just got married on July 31st, and together he and his wife have blended a wonderful family of eight children.

And then there’s the farm. JD’s wife runs a business breeding mini pigs, and let’s just say the family loves animals. Their crew includes 5 dogs, 20+ pigs, 3 babydoll sheep, 6 fainting goats, peacocks, chickens, pigeons, pheasants, ducks, geese, and even 2 emus!

As for a dream getaway, JD keeps it grounded. “I’m not the type of person to dream of grand travels. I’ve been across the US and seen a lot.” But if he had to pick one spot? Somewhere in Norway, to connect with his heritage. And when it comes to food, he keeps it simple and satisfying: JD is a big fan of Chinese food.

The Quality That Defines Him

We asked JD about his favorite quality in himself, and his answer says a lot about the kind of person he is. “I don’t give up,” he says. “I will keep working and digging at a problem until I find a solution.”

That’s the mindset every homeowner hopes for in the person guiding their build. When challenges pop up—and in construction, they sometimes do—you want someone who stays steady, stays focused, and keeps working until things are right.

There’s another part of JD’s life that shapes everything he does. “The other big part of my life is my life with Christ,” he shares. “It is a major influence on how I approach every situation in life. Being a Christian has made me the person I am today.”

We’re Grateful to Have JD on the Team

JD’s story is a beautiful reminder of what makes Taylor Homes special: real people who bring dedication, integrity, and heart to everything they build. His perseverance, his love for the craft, and his commitment to communicating with families make him a wonderful part of our team—and a big part of turning dreams into finished homes.

Thank you, JD, for all you do!
