Preparing your home for the warmer months, especially after a rough winter.

Spring is finally here after a particularly brutal winter!  There are several things to check your home for after winter is over, just to be sure that your home is in good order. You don’t want any surprises, especially not these kind of surprises.

The following is a good starting point of things to make sure are checked properly before the summer comes roaring in.

Get up on your roof! While you are up there check for shingles that are different from the others. That could mean that they are loose, maybe they are broken or totally missing.

Do some cleaning…of your gutters that is. When performing this step you should check to make sure that there isn’t any storm debris in your gutters and that they aren’t blocked in any way. With the heavy snow and ice, also check to make sure that the gutters and downspouts are still attached correctly and securely.

Make sure your jets are cool. During this time of the year it is important that you have an HVAC professional inspect your air conditioning system before the hot temperatures are upon us. It is almost hard to believe that we will need air conditioning anytime soon, but believe us you will!

Get to Caulking! It is important to do a complete inspection of your home’s door and window frames. Sometimes the frame will have separated just a little bit from the doors or windows. This is where your caulk comes in, fill any small gaps with your caulk.

If you decide not to tackle these projects yourself, make sure you choose a reputable handyman service that is insured, it is also helpful to get at least 3 estimates.
