Thanksgiving Recipes

We’re one week away from Thanksgiving, which means families are putting together their favorite Thanksgiving recipes and planning the perfect meal to share. There are so many classic Thanksgiving foods that everyone looks forward to every year, but there is always room to add a new dish to the menu. We’re here with a few Thanksgiving recipes to try this year.

  • Sweet Potato Casserole: Sweet potatoes are often served at Thanksgiving, but this tasty casserole will bring the perfect combination of sweet and savory to your table. (recipe from Chef in Training)
    • Instructions
      • Boil and mash sweet potatoes.
      • Beat in sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and milk until smooth and creamy.
      • Put in 9×13 greased pan.
      • To make topping, combine topping ingredients together in a small bowl. Stir and mix to combine. Crumble topping over sweet potatoes.
      • Ingredients
        • 3 cups cooked and mashed sweet potatoes
        • ⅔ cup sugar
        • ½ cup butter, softened
        • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
        • 1 teaspoon vanilla
        • ⅓ cup milk
        Topping
        • ⅓ cup butter, melted
        • 1 cup brown sugar
        • ½ cup flour
        • 1 cup chopped pecans
        • Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
  • Turkey Cheese Tray: This adorable appetizer is fun and festive. This is a great way to get the kids involved and let them help with part of the Thanksgiving meal. (recipe from Melanie Cooks)
    • Step 1: Make the turkey head and body
      • Cut out the shapes for the turkey head, body and legs out of cheddar cheese and arrange on the bottom of a large platter as shown on the picture.  Use the chocolate chips, raisins or peppercorns for the eyes, and a piece of Swiss cheese for the turkey beak.
    • Step 2: Arrange a layer of salami
      • Add a layer of salami around the turkey as shown on the picture below.  Salami slices should overlap and partia
      • lly go under the turkey (just lift the edges of the turkey body cheese slices and place the edges of salami under them).
    • Step 3: Arrange a layer of swiss cheese
      • In the same manner as the step above, add a layer of Swiss cheese slices around the turkey.
    • Step 4: Arrange another layer of salami and a layer of cheddar cheese
    • Step 5: Arrange two layers of Ritz cracker
      • Add a layer of Ritz crackers under the turkey, making them partially go under the cheddar cheese slices.
  • Apple Cranberry Walnut Salad: There are many different types of side dishes at Thanksgiving that everyone expects to see on the table. Having a festive salad is something different that you can add to your menu, and it may just become a new favorite. (recipe from Creme de la Crumb)
    • Ingredients
      • 6 cups salad (I used a combination of arugula and baby spinach, any spring green mix will do)

      • scant ½ teaspoon salt

      • ¼ cup oil
  • Instructions
    • Core and chop apples (thin slices or 1 inch chunks). Toss lettuce, apples, walnuts, feta, and cranberries together in a large bowl.
