Bourbon Heritage Month in the Commonwealth

September has been declared Bourbon Heritage Month by Governor Steve Beshear and the state legislature. This is the sixth time that Gov. Beshear has declared September as a month to celebrate Kentucky as the birthplace of bourbon. According to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, bourbon first began being made in Kentucky in the 1700’s, and today it is a huge industry that generates over $125 million in tax revenue every year.

If you’re interested in learning more about Kentucky bourbon, the history of the spirit, and how it is made, you may want to take a tour along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. This trail includes over 10 bourbon distilleries near Louisville, Frankfort, and Lexington, Kentucky. At each distillery, you can take a tour of the grounds to see how they make their bourbon and learn about their history. Most stops also include a tasting of their finished product. You can even get a Kentucky Bourbon Trail passport to keep track of all of the stops you have made along the trail. It is a great way to learn about the history of the spirit.

Celebrate Bourbon Heritage Month by visiting a distillery or two this fall season! For more information on tours, visit https://kybourbontrail.com/.
