Employee Spotlight: Gary Luttrell

Gary Luttrell had an extensive background in working with lumber, as well as management, for 16 years before joining Taylor Homes as a Construction and Purchasing Coordinator in 2009. He happened to see an employment ad posted from Taylor Homes and recalls that, after interviewing with Chris Taylor, he knew it was the perfect fit for his next employment opportunity. He’s been with Taylor Homes ever since. He will have his 10-year anniversary with Taylor Homes this October!

Gary’s responsibility as a Construction and Purchasing Coordinator meant he was quoting materials for the jobs, coordinating the release of jobs to vendors and contractors and basically helping in any way he could with the production of dream homes for customers. Since starting with Taylor Homes, Gary has been promoted to the Vice President of Production and loves it!

As told by Gary, “My favorite part about my job is being able to make a difference everyday in the lives of the construction workers and the people who we build homes for.” His motivation is knowing that he helps people get through, what can sometimes be a stressful process of life, with ease. Through building so many homes for customers, Gary’s words of wisdom are, “It’s not how you get there, but the destination.” He tries to use this motto whenever there can be obstacles in the building process. “I always tell myself; everyone will be so pleased with the end product that it’s worth staying positive.”

Gary says Taylor Homes is a close-knit family where the environment is always positive. He is proud that they were recognized by the Better Business Bureau as WINNERS of the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics – “it’s good to know that if it’s wrong, we’ll make it right”.

Gary is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. In his free time, he enjoys using stains to create “painting-like” images on wood veneer. He brings his history of wood and creativity together to make image-stained pieces. He starts by drawing them out, then stains them and frames them.
