Employee Spotlight – Joe Hobbs

Today’s employee spotlight features Joe Hobbs. Joe has worked full-time on the Taylor Homes Team as an Architectural Drafter for 10 years. This role requires him to draw CUSTOM homes for customers by comparing the contract and set of marked up prints given by the New Homes Consultant. He also takes care of coming up with new stock plans, 3D renderings and drawings for marketing material, and estimating construction materials. Joe attended Louisville Technical Institute where his major was Mechanical Drafting, and he has an Associate’s Degree for Mechanical Computer Aided Design Drafting.

His favorite thing about working for Taylor Homes is the freedom that he has creatively. In his words, “I like the challenge of designing a home to code, within a budget, and check all of the boxes for the homeowners.” When Joe is not at work he enjoys woodworking, 3D printing, and working on his old truck. Most of his free time is spent with his wife, playing with their 2-year-old son. He is also a Staff Sergeant in Army Reserves and has been in for 18 years.

His best piece of advice for prospective home owners is to try and build your credit score before you jump into the building process, and to shop around for a construction loan to try and get the best rates. For anyone considering building a custom home, he says, “be considerate of your lifestyle now and any changes in the future. Have a priority list and a wish list. Have an idea of what foundation is needed for your property.”
