Home Trend 2016: Shiplap

Chances are by now you have heard Joanna Gaines on HGTV talking about and decorating homes with shiplap. Before we go much further we should discuss what shiplap actually is!

Shiplap is a type of wooden board used commonly in the construction of barns, sheds, outbuildings and inexpensive or seasonal homes. It is either rough-sawn 1″ or milled 3/4″ pine or similarly inexpensive wood between 3″ and 10″ wide with a 3/8″ – 1/2″ rabbet on opposite sides of each end. Shiplap is also used indoors for the rough or rustic look that it creates when used as paneling or a covering for a wall or ceiling.

So, where does shiplap work the best in your home?

Chip and Joanna Gaines would tell you anywhere! We did a little digging and came up with some great examples of where shiplap has been used successfully!

The shiplap in this hallway makes quite the statement!

Shiplap, subway tile and carrara marble!? That is a match made in heaven in my book!

This shiplap accent on the fireplace is just the right touch to make a statement.

So what do you think? Do you like shiplap? Where do you think that it would fit the best in your own home?
